Question:
How do I fill and dispense mini kegs?

Answer:
Always start with a clean keg. Fill the keg with a mild soap solution and let soak for a few minutes. Rinse well with warm water and flush the valve well. Remove all water with a few pieces of paper towel and let the keg completely air dry. Sanitize the keg and two-piece bung immediately before use. When filling the 5 liter mini keg, leave a 1” space at the top for CO2 space. Next prime the beer. Use one level tablespoon corn sugar, Only one level tablespoon per 5 liter keg. Prime kegs individually, priming mini kegs and bottles use different ratios of corn sugar. Insert both pieces of the bung into the keg. A small layer of food grade lubricate like ‘Keg Lube’ will help when inserting the bung into the top of the mini keg. Let your mini keg condition at the same temperature that your beer fermented for the first 10-14 days. This will let the beer carbonate. After the beer is carbonated, cool the beer for dispensing. There will be some CO2 buildup in the keg at this point. You should use this CO2 to dispense the first glass or two before attaching your CO2 cartridge for dispensing the rest.

Question:
How do I fill a Mini Keg with finished beer?

Answer:
If you would like to fill the mini keg with a finished beer from a larger keg: First, chill the mini keg to the same or colder temperature than the beer temperature. This ensures that the beer will retain more of the CO2 as it gets lost to heat and evaporation. Next, raise the CO2 pressure of the beer being transferred. If the beer is in a five gallon keg, raise the Pressure by 10 psi. and shake the keg three to four times for 24 hours to introduce a higher C02 volume. By over carbonating the beer before it goes into the mini keg you compensate for the loss during the filling. After the beer has acquired a higher volume of CO2, lower the pressure to 2 psi. Transfer the beer into the mini keg by filling the pre-chilled keg from the bottom up. Insert the bung and refrigerate.

Question:
How long will my beer stay fresh in a mini keg?

Answer:
As long as the mini keg has not been tapped and you keep it refrigerated, it should stay fresh for a couple of weeks. However, once the beer has been carbonated (or if you filled the mini keg with finished beer from a larger keg), it is ideal that you plan on consuming the beer within one week. After the mini keg has been tapped, the beer will be best if it is consumed within a few days.
